Tashkeel Presents Maitha Hamdan’s Solo Exhibition

Tashkeel, a leading UAE-based art and design incubator, unveils ‘I Kept Holding,’ an immersive exhibition by Maitha Hamdan, an Emirati artist and graduate of the Critical Practice Programme. This exhibition, part of Tashkeel’s 2025 Winter Season, marks Hamdan’s eighth show in the UAE and serves as the culmination of her journey through Tashkeel’s esteemed programme.

A multidisciplinary exploration of the human experience, ‘I Kept Holding’ integrates performance, installation, and videography to delve into the societal constraints imposed on women globally. The exhibition examines the emotional and psychological toll of these limitations while simultaneously celebrating female resilience. Hamdan’s work reflects an intricate interplay of colour, material, and societal norms, inviting viewers to confront and question boundaries that confine individuals.

Central to the exhibition is the use of wax and the colour red. Wax, with its transformative properties, symbolises fluidity and change, while red conveys an array of complex emotions and ideas—passion, vitality, love, and conflict. These elements are interwoven with narratives of endurance, provoking introspection and inspiring dialogue about self-definition and liberation from societal constraints.

Complementing the exhibition, visitors can attend a three-hour workshop titled ‘Ephemeral Elegance: Crafting Art with Melted Wax’ on Sunday, February 9, from 2 pm to 5 pm at FN Designs, Alserkal Avenue.
