ROW DTLA’s Friday Gallery Hosts Halim Al-Karim’s Latest Exhibition

Located in ROW DTLA, Friday Gallery unveils its second exhibition, On HOPE: Inanna’s Revolution, featuring Iraqi artist Halim Al-Karim. The exhibition opens on February 14, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, showcasing works rooted in mythology, resilience, and transformation.

Founded by Mitch and Mubarak Jafery, Friday Gallery celebrates Middle Eastern and South Asian talent, blending art with curated objects, jewelry, and fabrics. Moving beyond traditional gallery spaces, it pairs exhibitions with design elements reflecting cultural heritage and storytelling. Each season, the gallery’s rotating themes serve as a bridge between artistic expression and contemporary design.

Al-Karim’s ethereal photography draws from the Sumerian myth of Inanna, symbolizing survival and renewal. His work, shaped by personal exile, merges myth and contemporary themes, offering a dreamlike meditation on hope. The artist, who represented Iraq at the 54th Venice Biennale, is known for his innovative techniques that explore memory and identity.

Complementing this, the gallery presents sculptural works by Lebanese designer Tamara Barrage, embroidered Pakistani apparel from Color Coded Crime, avant-garde jewelry by Native American designer Emily Schuyler, and handcrafted Indian parandis by Ziddi. This collection of art, fashion, and objects offers a multi-sensory experience that deepens the connection between heritage and modern aesthetics.

As part of ROW DTLA’s creative ecosystem, On HOPE: Inanna’s Revolution bridges cultures and histories, cementing Friday Gallery’s role in Los Angeles’ evolving art scene. The exhibition invites visitors to engage with global narratives and explore how art can be a vessel for cultural dialogue and reinvention.
