Maison Margiela and Christian Louboutin Join Forces

Maison Margiela and Christian Louboutin unveil their first-ever capsule shoe collection, blending their distinct creative languages into two collaborative lines: Maison Margiela by Christian Louboutin and Christian Louboutin by Maison Margiela. Originally unveiled as part of the Maison Margiela 2024 Artisanal collection in January, the collaboration brings together the long-standing artistic dialogue between Creative Director John Galliano and Christian Louboutin.

The Maison Margiela by Christian Louboutin collection reimagines the iconic Tabi shoe through Louboutin’s signature curvaceous forms and red sole. This iteration of the split-toe design is constructed from two separate pieces rather than a cut-in toecap, creating a silhouette reminiscent of a woman’s décolleté. The collection features three styles: the Bridiela Una Strass, a bridal pump with crystal-encrusted mesh and a 100mm heel; the Loubiella, a stiletto sandal accentuating the arch of the foot; and the Marlougiela, a sleek, sculptural ballerina flat. These styles are crafted in a mix of black, silver, and blush tones, with patent leather and mesh variations reflecting Maison Margiela’s Artisanal aesthetics.

Conversely, the Christian Louboutin by Maison Margiela collection applies Maison Margiela’s deconstructionist approach to Louboutin’s seductive designs. The technique of decortiqué—stripping an item to its core structure—defines the collection, exposing the inner framework of each shoe. This aesthetic is evident in the Bilougiela 25, an ankle-strap sandal with partially peeled black patent leather; the Martinloula, a pointed pump with draped leather strands revealing its internal support; and the Xrismarteen, a knee-high boot where collapsed leather strips expose the lining beneath. The Martoubi 25, a white pointed pump with a spontaneous red brushstroke on the heel cap, nods to Maison Margiela’s bianchetto technique, echoing the origins of Louboutin’s signature red sole.
