Behind the Craft of the Ballon d'Or Trophy Trunks
At the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony, international football legends Rodrigo Hernández Cascante and Aitana Bonmatí were each awarded football’s highest honour, with their trophies presented in bespoke Louis Vuitton Trophy Trunks.
For this prestigious event, Louis Vuitton dressed both Warren Zaïre-Emery, Friend of the House and Paris Saint-Germain player, and FC Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmatí. Warren Zaïre-Emery appeared in a black single-breasted tuxedo jacket with matching pants, a white shirt, black bowtie, and black derbies, while Aitana Bonmatí wore a white cady and silk dress with knot detail, embroidered with gray rhinestones, paired with black satin sandals, a Pico GO-14 bag, and High Jewelry Galaxie Monogram earrings set with two princess-cut diamonds of 1.02 carats.
For the second consecutive year, Louis Vuitton crafted the Ballon d’Or Trophy Trunks as part of a partnership with France Football, with UEFA’s support for this year’s edition. Each trunk, hand-crafted by Louis Vuitton artisans at the historical Asnières workshops, is covered in the House’s iconic Monogram canvas. Both trunks open with front panels featuring a “V” for “Victory” and “Vuitton” in gold paint, a nod to the Ballon d’Or. Signature Louis Vuitton lozines, along with the classic brass corners, locks, and clasps, enhance the exterior, while inside, black microfibre lining with the Ballon d’Or logo and a dedicated drawer complete the design.
With this project, Louis Vuitton continues its legacy of creating trunks for prestigious international trophies, exemplifying its “excellence of savoir-faire and the surpassing of boundaries” that remain integral to the House’s values.
