Monét - ‘No Words’

Singer/rapper/songwriter Monét releases her new single ‘No Words’. Showcasing another soulful sample and production, this track follows on from ‘Just One of Those Days’ and further emphasises her signature spoken word style. The production by long term collaborator Solomon has offbeat Hip-Hop and Jazz elements, using the sample effectively drawing comparisons to the likes of J Dilla and Kanye West. Monét demonstrates her hypnotic lyrical ability throughout, effortlessly flowing between Neo-Soul, Spoken word and Alt-R&B. Her lyrics explore themes of female empowerment, comparing herself to Superman and Medusa - both with supernatural powers.

From Peckham, South East London, Monét began to write poetry at the tender age of 8, when she was given her first taste of performing whilst showcasing her skills in primary school talent shows. Citing the likes of Lauren Hill, Solange, and Erykah Badu as inspiration. Growing up with synesthesia she uses her relationship with colour to her advantage allowing tones to produce feelings, as well as help direct her creative process in and out of the studio. She describes her music as warm and wants to invoke these feelings in the listeners.

Over the past few months the London native has built excitement through the release of ‘Just One of Those Days’, gaining championing support from the likes of Reprezent, Rinse FM, The Beat London, No Signal Radio and BBC Radio London to name a few. Over 2021 Monét will be releasing her first EP entitled ‘Profile 1’ coming very soon.
