Jaeger-LeCoultre Presents Latest Collaboration with Khalid Shafar

Jaeger-LeCoultre continues to redefine the boundaries of horology and artistry with its latest collaboration under the Made of Makers programme. In a masterful fusion of tradition and innovation, the Swiss watchmaking Maison has partnered with Emirati designer Khalid Shafar to unveil an exclusive art installation inspired by the celestial rhythms of Ramadan. This collaboration intertwines Jaeger-LeCoultre’s reverence for time with Shafar’s distinctive approach to contemporary design.

The Made of Makers programme is an ongoing initiative that bridges the worlds of horology and art, uniting talents from diverse disciplines who share a commitment to precision and creativity. Challenging the notion that classical arts are static relics of the past, the programme seeks to continuously reinvent tradition, honouring it as a dynamic source of contemporary inspiration. Much like the watchmakers at Jaeger-LeCoultre, these artists explore new creative frontiers while respecting heritage as a foundation for innovation.

Khalid Shafar brings his unique perspective to this collaboration. Known for his ability to weave cultural heritage into modern aesthetics, Shafar has developed a design language that is both evocative and functional. His journey from a corporate career to the world of design led him to establish his own studio in Dubai, where he has since become a prominent figure in the global design landscape. His creations, often characterised by clean lines and rich textures, tell compelling stories that resonate deeply with audiences.

At the heart of this collaboration is ‘Crescent To Crescent,’ a six-metre-wide installation that visually narrates the passage of time through the phases of the moon. Comprising 29 intricately designed moons, each representing a day of the lunar cycle, the installation celebrates the interplay of celestial movements and fine craftsmanship. Engravings reminiscent of the Maison’s guilloché decorative technique pay homage to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s meticulous artisanship. The installation offers a dual experience—one side reveals a mesmerising gradient reflecting the moon’s daily evolution, while the other immerses viewers in a dynamic interplay of light, symbolising the fluidity of time.

The installation is on display at the Dubai Mall Grand Atrium throughout Ramadan before travelling to select locations across the city.
