Dark Sky Paradise
We want to talk about our favourite Big Sean album. Dark Sky Paradise has been a part of our life since its release day in 2015. It started off as playing the entire album on repeat for days in a row to months to it becoming our top 12 most played songs of the year.
Sean had started his (one of his many) peak with IDFWU and blew up, but that track is just a PART of an entire masterpiece. Collaborating with Chris Brown, Drake, Ty Dolla Sign, Kanye West, E-40, Lil Wayne, John Legend, and of course, Jhené Aiko. Sean picked these names wisely and didn’t allow them to completely steal the show, but rather work hand in hand.
Listening to ‘Blessings’, you appreciate Drake equally. ‘All Your Fault’ has a beautiful aggression with Kanye’s help. You wouldn’t want ‘Play No Games’ any other way, as Breezy and Ty tie the entire thing together and make it the tune it is.
Sean takes the opportunity in this album to express his sound and story - taking us through his journey of starting from the basement and to the skyscrapers in Dark Sky, his approach to life in ‘One Man Can Change the World’, his hustle in Paradise, and complete ties in his soul in ‘Outro’.
This album has been a part of our lives for around 6 years now and it still glues to our chest like it’s the first time we’re hearing it while also feeling nostalgic. There isn’t enough good we can express about this piece of work and nothing will do it justice to express the nostalgia and escape. We share some of our favourite memories with this album and have an appreciation and respect for it that we have yet to find with any other (of any genre).
