Emerging Alt-Pop Band Neon Gru Release Debut EP "I Am A Bird"

Described by BBC Introducing Essex as “incredibly innovative and totally mesmerising, an absolute dream” as part of their Sounds of 2021; emerging London 6-piece Neon Gru’s debut EP ‘I Am A Bird’ fuses unorthodox rhythms with smooth melodies and rich, progressive electronic productions – resulting in a sound that defies genre boundaries. Each song is an intricately woven soundscape giving new breath to the search for deeper meaning, the humble acknowledgement of inner states, and the courage needed to change.

The band members – Ny Oh, Ru Lemer, Nuno Brito, David Dyson, Leon Itzler and George Risk – are some of London’s most sought after creatives, having individually worked with artists like Harry Styles, Dalton Harris, Gregory Porter, Natalie Merchant, Nick Mulvey and Nile Rogers. The group remain self-produced and fully independent, drawing on their mutual love and celebration of sound, while pushing the boundaries of modern home-recording capabilities.

The EP’s first single 'Hot Wine' was released September 2020, and has since received over 10,000 streams on Spotify. The studio version of 'Moonlight', previously only heard as a live performance, finally emerges with full production treatment and vintage electronic drums. Track 3 sees a unique cover of 'How Low' by José González, laced with signature hypnotic percussion and inescapable momentum. The EP's namesake track 'I Am A Bird' is a whirlwind of catchy hooks, soaring strings and experimental production that pulls those who dare listen into an otherworldly alt-pop paradise.
